Do you want to maintain a straight and beautiful smile for a lifetime? If so, our Phan Orthodontics team strongly recommends taking great care of your teeth and gums after your braces have been removed. If you take good care of your smile, your teeth will remain in their positions and your chances of having dental issues decrease. To help you take care of your smile following orthodontic treatment in San Jose, California, we recommend doing the following things:

-Wear your retainer as recommended. Wearing your retainer will help keep your teeth in their new positions and it will help you maintain your straight and healthy smile.

-Wait about one month before bleaching or whitening your chompers. Your teeth will still be sensitive right after you get your braces off, so waiting will give your chompers time to recover.

-Don’t binge on crunchy and chewy foods right after you’ve removed your braces. Because your teeth and gums will still be a bit sensitive, eating these foods will just make it worse. It’s best to ease into eating these products.

-Schedule a dental cleaning with your dentist. It is highly likely that there are areas in your smile that were neglected during your orthodontic treatment. If you get a deep teeth-cleaning treatment, those areas will be cleaned and your smile will remain in good condition.

Your orthodontist, Dr. Derick Phan, and our team care about you, your smile, and your oral health, which is why we strongly recommend taking great care of your teeth following your treatment. However, we do understand that doing so may be a bit overwhelming. So, if you have any questions, please feel free to call 408.251.7901 and talk to a member of our friendly team.
