Bad breath is a common problem among many, especially for those with braces. It generally develops when food is stuck in the mouth or appliance for a long amount of time. When this happens, the food lets off a smelly odor into the mouth, resulting in bad breath. To help with this problem, we strongly recommend doing the following things:
· Brush your teeth: We recommend brushing your teeth after each meal and snack. Brushing will help you remove the food particles that get stuck between the appliance and your teeth. If you brush with minty toothpaste that contains fluoride, you will also have fresher breath along with a cleaner smile. All you need to do is clean your tongue when you’re done.
· Floss your smile: Flossing will also help you remove the food particles from the crevices and hard-to-reach areas of your smile. You can also floss after each meal for best results—just make sure you are gentle along the gum line as you do so. If you need flossing tips, please feel free to talk to our orthodontic team.
· Use mouthwash: Mouthwash will complete the cleaning job and it will give you the fresh breath you are looking for. Try to rinse at least once a day and use a rinse that your dentist or orthodontist recommends. That way your oral health and your orthodontic appliance will remain safe.
Oral hygiene is extremely important. It not only freshens your breath and cleans your teeth, but it also improves your oral health and helps you quickly achieve your smile goals.
