Candy can be very desirable at times, and it seems to be even more desirable when you have braces. However, even though you want your favorite candies and treats, it’s very important that you take good care of your orthodontic appliance by avoiding them, especially candies and treats like:
Sticky candies are the worst products for your braces, which is why we strongly advise against eating caramel. Caramel tends to stick to your teeth and braces when you eat it and it is very difficult to clean. The sticky candy can also alter the condition of your braces by clinging to a bracket and breaking it. If your brackets break, your treatment time will be delayed.
Salt Water Taffy
Salt water taffy is another treat that is extremely sticky, which is why it is so harmful for your braces. However, it is also harmful for your teeth. Not only will it break your brackets, but it will also create tooth decay in your smile. So, for a strong oral health and orthodontic appliance, please do not eat salt water taffy when you have braces.
The kernels in popcorn are what make the treat so dangerous. As you eat the little white puffs, the kernels will get lodged between your teeth and braces and they can easily break your appliance. This can also cause further orthodontic complications that we recommend you avoid. So, no matter the flavor of the popcorn, we strongly suggest staying away from this treat.
If you are upset about this information, just remember that you won’t have braces forever and once your smile aligns and you get your braces off, you will be able to eat whatever you want! Until then, it’s best to avoid these treats and do everything you can to avoid delaying your treatment time.
